India: Falun Dafa Practitioners Invited to Participate in Newtown Book Fair

(Minghui.org) Falun Dafa practitioners in India were invited for the fifth year to participate in the Newtown Book Fair held in Kolkata from January 28 to February 7, 2022.

The Falun Dafa booth was decorated with banners detailing the benefits of this ancient meditation system. The highlight was a tall stand with a huge TV screen placed alongside the booth which drew visitors. They watched the various videos playing on the screen providing more information about Falun Dafa and accepted the informational flyers given to them.

People were happy to find the books Zhuan Falun and Falun Gong in the Bengali Language and in English, and many people browsed through the books and bought them. Many visitors showed interest in learning the Falun Dafa exercises, some learned them on the spot.

Many showed keen interest in the webinars and practitioners shared the Link with them and they promised to join the weekend webinars.

Prodyut Kumar De, a retired Cost Accountant learned about Falun Dafa and purchased some of the books in January 2020 at the Newtown Book Fair. After he began practicing the ailments that plagued him for years and seemed beyond cure disappeared.

Mr. De just couldn’t stop singing the praises of the practice and of Master Li Hongzhi, the founder of the practice. Out of a deep sense of gratitude, Mr. De decided to tell others about Falun Dafa. He began practicing the exercises every morning in a small park near his home. He also tells people how unfair it is that people in China are not allowed to do this wonderful practice.

For Anupam Majee, a retired General Manager of a major Telecom company, 2020 was a landmark year—he was fortunate to discover Falun Dafa at the Newtown Book Fair and also became part of a group that does the exercises. He said the lower backache problem that persisted for years just disappeared and he became more calm and aware of many emotions and his relationships with his family and others became more congenial.

Mr. Majee wants to let others know how amazing Falun Dafa is so during this year’s Newtown Book Fair he stayed at the booth and distributed information about Falun Dafa, telling people his own experiences.

Background: What Is Falun Dafa?

Falun Dafa (also known as Falun Gong) was first introduced to the public by Mr. Li Hongzhi in Changchun, China, in 1992. The spiritual discipline is now practiced in over 100 countries and regions worldwide.

Millions of people who have embraced the teachings—which are based on the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance—and learned the five exercises have experienced improved health and well-being.

Jiang Zemin, former head of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), perceived the spiritual discipline’s growing popularity as a threat to the CCP’s atheistic ideology and on July 20, 1999, issued an order to ban the practice.

Minghui.org has confirmed the deaths of thousands of practitioners as a result of the persecution over the past 22 years. The actual number is believed to be much higher. More have been imprisoned and tortured for their faith.

There is concrete evidence that the CCP sanctions the harvesting of organs from detained practitioners, who are murdered to supply the organ transplant industry.

Under Jiang’s personal direction, the CCP established the 610 Office, an extralegal security organisation with the power to override the police and judicial systems and whose sole function is to carry out the persecution of Falun Dafa.
