Chen Yonglin left on Tuesday for Los Angeles, where he will attend a US Congress hearing “to testify about Falun Gong and human rights abuses in China”, The Australian newspaper reports.
Republican Henry Hyde, the Chairman of the US congressional sub-committee on global human rights, has invited Chinese defector, Mr. Chen Yonglin, a former Ist Secretary at the Sydney Chinese Consulate, to testify before the Committee, about Chinese spy networks and how the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) treats Falun Gong practitioners.
One of the two plaintiffs in the case, Zhang Cuiying, told more than 100 Falun Gong practitioners protesting outside the court that the certificates signed by Mr Downer limit freedom of speech.
Mr Chen has produced documents he claims are from the Chinese
consulate-general in Sydney, including the file of one Chinese-Australian
dissident and a list of almost 300 Falun Gong supporters which was sent by
the former Chinese ambassador and marked “very urgent”.
The applicants claimed that Mr. Downer’s actions impaired their right to freedom of expression in Australia and were accordingly invalid.
