I write to you concerning some recent contributions I have made in the Parliament on Falun Gong and the freedom of speech.
On April 5, 2005, Wu Jialong, the deputy Mayor of Chonqing City and his delegation visited Brisbane, the Capitol of Queensland. Falun Gong practitioners took this opportunity to conduct a peaceful appeal calling for an end to the ongoing persecution of Falun Gong in China.
Falun Gong seek justice to end censorship of appeal in Canberra
The Australian Foreign Minister, Mr Alexander Downer, has used the Vienna Convention in an unprecedented manner regarding the Falun Gong appeals outside the Chinese Embassy in Canberra. Australia is the only democratic country that restricts Falun Gong appeals.

On 28 February 2005, a second Status Conference is scheduled for the landmark case in the Supreme Court of NSW where the defendants, Jiang Zemin and the 610 Office*, and the plaintiff are called to appear before the Registrar.
To coincide with the 12th January 1951, when genocide was declared illegal by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Australian Falun Dafa practitioners held the Persecution Meets Principle anti-torture exhibition in Bankstown, Sydney, on January the 13th and 14th 2005.
Australian practitioners had a candle night vigil in front of Chinese Embassy in Canberra on New Year’s Day.
The anti-torture exhibition, exercise demonstration and truth-clarification efforts which attracted countless passersby to watch. Many were first shocked by the exhibit, and then started to study the exhibit and read the posters seriously.
It seems that this lawsuit has caused some frenzied reaction from the Chinese authorities. The Australian reported one source as saying, They can’t understand why the Government can’t just stop it from going ahead, like it would in China.

Melbourne Falun Gong practitioners gave a clear message to the Chinese Consulate authorities: Bring Jiang Zemin to Justice, Bring Lou Gan to Justice, Bring Zhou Yongkang to Justice and Bring Liu Jing to Justice and stop the persecution of Falun Gong. These four people must be held responsible for they are the chief perpetrators guilty…
Freedom of religion and belief are universal human rights and are firmly enshrined in international law. The Democrats have an unswerving commitment to these rights and we will continue to condemn any form of detention, torture or other persecution on the basis of religion or belief.
